Reading the coast
Three strips, two roads, one sea
Orihuela Costa belongs to the municipality of Orihuela, whose old town is some 35 km inland. It has no centre of its own; it is a line of urbanisations along 16 kilometres of coast, cut lengthways by the N-332 and, further inland, by the AP-7 motorway. Knowing which strip you are in is the quickest way to be found.
Beyond the AP-7 On the far side of the motorway, around three kilometres from the sea.
- Villamartín
Inland of the N-332 The higher ground on the far side of the main road.
- Lomas de Cabo Roig and La Regia
Seaward of the N-332 Between the main road and the cliffs, coves and beaches.
- Punta Prima
- Playa Flamenca
- La Zenia
- Cabo Roig
- Aguamarina
- Dehesa de Campoamor
Also covered: Los Altos, La Florida, Los Dolses, Las Ramblas, Lomas de Campoamor.
Urbanisation by urbanisation
What to say when you ring from each one
Seaward of the N-332
- Punta Prima. Modern apartment complexes and townhouses by the sea, where Orihuela Costa meets Torrevieja. The municipal boundary runs through here. Say which complex you are in rather than which town your post arrives from.
- Playa Flamenca. Townhouses, bungalows and commercial centres; the Saturday market fills Calle Nicolás de Bussi. On a Saturday morning the market street is closed to traffic for over a kilometre. Give a street on either side of it.
- La Zenia. Terraced and semi-detached houses, some with glazed porches, a short walk from La Zenia–Cala Bosque. Many complexes have a pedestrian gate on one street and the garage ramp on another. Tell us which one you can reach.
- Cabo Roig. The original urbanisation around the sixteenth-century watchtower on the headland, with villas and low blocks. If you are seaward of the main road, say so: Cabo Roig and Lomas de Cabo Roig share a name and sit on opposite sides of it.
- Aguamarina. A residential complex above its own small cove, about 250 metres of beach. Quiet even in August, which makes a gate code or the name of the block the quickest way to find you.
- Dehesa de Campoamor. Detached houses among the pines of the Dehesa, down to the beach of La Glea. Houses with their own garden gate, and numbers that are hard to read from the road. Drop a pin on WhatsApp and we will find the right gate.
Inland of the N-332
- Lomas de Cabo Roig and La Regia. Apartment complexes, quads and bungalows with communal pools, on the opposite side of the N-332 from Cabo Roig. Many doors here sit behind a community gate. Say whether the gate opens for you, or only the street.
Beyond the AP-7
- Villamartín. The urbanisations around Villamartín golf course, open since 1972: townhouses, quads and apartments on the fairways. Villamartín is several developments under one name. The development name on your gate matters more than the word "Villamartín".
Either side of it
Pilar de la Horadada and San Miguel de Salinas
The two municipalities that border this coast to the south and inland are covered in the same way, at the same hours.
-
Pilar de la Horadada
The southernmost town in the province of Alicante, separated from Orihuela in 1986. Its coast runs on from Campoamor, with its own watchtower of 1591, and the Guardia Civil post that covers this coast is here.
Including Torre de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras, Las Higuericas, Pinar de Campoverde.
-
San Miguel de Salinas
Inland, beyond Villamartín. Several urbanisations people think of as part of Villamartín, such as El Galán, Blue Lagoon and Las Filipinas, are in fact in San Miguel de Salinas.
Including El Galán, Blue Lagoon, Las Filipinas, Blue Hills.
Torrevieja to the north and Orihuela's inland old town are not part of this service area.
